    Managing Director

    Maria has been centrally involved in the festivals and events sector in Ireland since 2000 beginning her career in this area as CEO of Ireland’s St Patrick's Festival.
    In 2009 as Festival Director to the Volvo Ocean Race Stopover in Galway in which she oversaw a two week programme which achieved an attendance of 660,000 She then went on to found Milestone Inventive in 2011 which lists amongst its credits such diverse events as Hope It Rains | Soineann Nó Doineann with Ciotóg Teo; Galway International Oyster and Seafood Festival; Galway Christmas Market; “A Nation’s Voice” 1916 Centenary concert; the visits to Ireland of the Clipper Round the World Sailing Race in Cork in 2010 and in Derry in 2012; the Commercial Agency for the visit to Dublin of the Tall Ships Race in 2012 and a number of markets throughout Ireland, including the Temple Bar Saturday Markets for Dublin City Council as well as coordinating the catering provision for the Papal Visit to the Phoenix Park and Knock in 2018.

    The combined audiences at all of the events which Maria has successfully produced now exceed 8 million people and their combined proven economic impact is over €300 million.

    In addition to her involvement in festivals and events she has also worked extensively in rural and community development as a LEADER group CEO, as a freelance consultant and in the European Parliament. She served for many years as Chairman of AOIFE (Association of Irish Festival Events) and on the board of the Spraoi festival and street arts company in Waterford.

  • Katie Shackleton

    Operations Director

    Katie has been working in the events & cultural sector since 2006 and has been heavily involved in all aspects of event development and planning, festival programming, client management, sponsor and partner development, logistics and production.
    Since co-founding Milestone Inventive in 2011, she has been centrally involved in the creative production of some of the most high profile events in Ireland over the last decade, from the Volvo Ocean Race Galway stopover in 2009 to the most recent Galway 2020 commissioned project Hope it Rains and A Nation's Voice and National Heritage Week in between.
    As Operations Director in Milestone her forte lies in her ability to develop and foster client, partner and sponsor relationships so that the vision of the project always remains to the fore and that the outcomes match if not exceed expectations. She has the skill to develop and tailor sponsor packages that remain true to the ethos of a project but are commercially viable for sponsors as well.
    Throughout all of Milestone's projects she has been adept in the area of creative production, having the ability to create a visual spectacle whilst being aware of the logistical and production restrictions and requirements that may be involved. She has the breadth of experience required to bring ideas off the page and into reality.

    She has been primarily responsible for all festival programming, event planning and the booking of suppliers and performers/traders for Milestone's in-house productions, and has forged lasting relationships with suppliers, sponsors, performers and traders in the process.
    Katie also has a strong background in research and evaluation and has facilitated research and developed reports for a number of clients including Gaillimh le Gaelige, The Heritage Council, Ironman 70.3, the IRFU and Sligo BIDS as well as conducting annual audience satisfaction and economic impact studies for both our own in-house productions (Galway Christmas Market and Galway Oyster Festival) and clients like the Redline Book Festival.

  • Fiona Lawless

    Operations Manager

    Fiona has been involved in the arts, culture and theatre sector since 2000 and has worked in various roles since, gaining invaluable experience in all areas including production, logistics, stage management, planning, Web maintenance, ticketing, registration and booking systems and web maintenance.

    In a freelance role in recent years she has worked with many companies, as school liaison and BEAST! Project coordinator with Baboró International Arts Festival for Children, as front of house manager with Druid, volunteers manager with Food on the Edge and most recently on the St Patricks Festival Galway looking after their communications and social media.

    Since joining the Milestone team in 2011 she has been integrally involved in all of their productions from inception to fruition.
    Her role within the company has primarily been in the area of logistics, production and people management and her creative flair and practical thinking have ensured that she can approach any project confidently while keeping an overall eye on the outcome.
    She has worked on numerous national and nationwide projects from The Volvo Ocean Race in 2009 to the Papal Visit in 2018 and National Heritage Week and the magical A Nations Voice in between.
    She has also been in involved in their in-house productions, Galway Christmas Market from 2011 to the present and The Galway International Oyster Festival since 2014.
    Recently she has been primarily involved in the area of planning and permit applications, logistics, liaison with Statutory bodies, online booking & registration systems and web maintenance and online advertising. She is also very involved in the area of staff and volunteer management.

  • Mary Dooley

    Administrator

    Mary brings a wealth of experience with her to the Milestone team having developed skills in the area of personnel, events planning and marketing and a host of account and administration skills throughout her career to date.

    She is particularly strong in the area of data management and account administration and managing online registration systems. She maintains all company policies and procedures and ensures that we are compliant in all aspects of our day to day business dealings.

    Within the Milestone team she manages client and supplier relationships on a day to day basis, maintaining good relationships throughout.
    One of her key assets is the wealth of knowledge and experience she has built up working within the print industry and her eye for layout and design have proved a valuable asset on all events since joining the team. She is adept at creating engaging content both for print material and online content across social media.

  • Alison Kilbane

    Creative Production

    Alison has built a strong reputation within the festival and events industry, her background as an artist and her experience within creative production and coordination having made her a perfect combination for all events.
    She has been involved with various festival over the last number of years in the areas of creative production and production coordinator. With the Galway Arts Festival over the last number of years she has been involved in the administrative element of production, procuring supplier, managing crew, collating all relevant documentation while also overseeing the design and installation of the Festival Garden in Eyre Square, a recent and incredibly popular addition to the festival over the last couple of years.
    On the Kaleidoscope Festival in 2019 she was production coordinator responsible for the conception and installation of the décor and dressing of the site as well as sourcing and managing smaller diverse programming elements like the Skate Park and massage therapists.
    Within the Milestone team she has been intimately involved in the creative design of a new upcoming project for Christmas 2020 after initially enhancing the installations of the Galway Christmas market the, incorporating new designs into established themes.
    She has also been involved in the print and design of various elements of our Galway 2020 commissioned project ‘Hope it rains’. She will also be one of the facilitating artists in our upcoming workshops on the ‘umbrella orphanage’ strand of the project which will see broken and abandoned umbrellas being reimagined and repurposed as both small and large scale art installations and items of clothing.
