Galway International Oyster and Seafood Festival

Each September, Galway City comes alive with seafood & oysters as it celebrates the Galway International Oyster & Seafood Festival, the most internationally recognised food festival in Ireland and the world’s longest running International Oyster Festival.  The Festival was established in 1954 with the specific aim of extending the tourist season into September, and still provides a welcome boost to the local economy in the autumn shoulder season.

Over the last 60 years, the festival has featured prominently in international media including Time Magazine, Travel & Leisure Magazine, Conde Nast, The Sunday Times, Daily Mail, Daily Telegraph, Image Magazine, Food & Wine magazine, Fodors, The Lonely Planet Guide and The Rough Guide among many, many more. Historically, the festival has been proven to attract thousands of visitors to the Galway region each year.
